Refit
How rugged mobile computers are used to track assemblies and parts during a refit

In a naval refit thousands of assemblies and parts must be tracked as well as miles of pipework and cables

Classified projects

This company carries out large scale maintenance projects for customers in the public sector.

The problem

Each project involves inspection, disassembly, and refurbishment or replacement of thousands of assemblies and parts. The contractor was tracking all of these manually.

Requirements

  1. Receive data about each assembly and item from the contractor's system.
  2. Identify each assembly and item with a unique number.
  3. Maintain a database to track the status of each assembly and item.
  4. Track each assembly and item with rugged handheld terminals.
  5. Return data to the contractor's system after reinstallation or replacement

Results

The contractor has upgraded the system on several occasions and deployed it in North America.
